Welcome to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Women and Minorities in Science website. Objectives · Build solidarity and support among the Scripps community · Create network of people interested in dealing with WMIS issues that members can draw from for discussions and advice · Provide stimulating and helpful ideas and strategies for dealing with issues of WMIS and building careers in science · Not duplicate career building resources offered by the University, but to focus on advice and personal experiences specific to our fields and situations · Keep meetings informal and relaxed · Coordinate with GDAWG
Both female and male graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in the group since these issues effect us all and cannot be solved without everyone’s participation. |

Meeting Monday April 6 at 6 p.m.Topic: Discrimination and how to deal with it When: April 6 at 6 pm Where: Coast Community Room Please RSVP to jcarilli@ucsd.edu by April 3 Details: We've probably all experienced some form of discrimination, whether purposeful or not, in our careers. At this meeting we will discuss situations in which we felt discriminated against, how we responded to the situation at the time, and how we might respond in the future. The meeting will be focused on ways to reduce the potential for future problems, i.e.--can we (should we?) change how we are perceived to reduce discrimination--constructive responses to make clear when a comment is inappropriate Food will be provided, but if you would like to bring a drink or a dessert, please do. Please RSVP by Friday April 3rd. |
